Homemade Croutons

Amidst all the moving and packing, I literally am not getting time to write or cook up for my blog. Today, was a bit free and got time to rest for a while but my hands were itching to write something on my blog. I guess, this is what happens when you are addicted to something. But I am liking this. So Putting up a simple recipe which is very easy to make or rather bake. I had stored some from last week's preparation for my evening nibbles. :)

Now who doesn't love "croutons" in their soups or salads. I love them and they are the reason why I drink soups. Those crunchy cubes when soaked in a hot creamy soup, just melts away in your mouth giving you that strong garlicky - buttery taste. mmm.... "Croutons", is a French origin where the stale crust of bread was baked and topped it on the famous French Onion Soup. And as usual, once a hit, always a hit. Enjoy baking them at home!!

Ingredients:
  • 2 french baguettes or 5 slices of white bread (cut into 1/2 inch cubes with a knife) use the crust too
  • 2 cloves of garlic (crush it with the back of the knife)
  • 3 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
  • salt to season
Method:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Celsius.
  2. Take a mixing bowl and put in the cut bread cubes, crushed garlic, olive oil & salt. Mix thoroughly with your hand until all the bread cubes are evenly coated.
  3. Spread the bread cubes on a baking tray & put it inside the oven.
  4. Let it bake till golden. It will take approximately 10 minutes.
  5. Take out the golden crunchy croutons out of the oven and serve it with hot soups or cold salads. You can even store the croutons in an air tight container for further use.
SIMPLE!! AIN'T IT???

PS: If you don't have an oven, you can even deep fry it till golden. But then you have to handle more love and more calories!! :)

3 Ingredients / 3 Minute Microwave PEDAS

It's Celebration time all the way!! Why? Because My FB fan page has just reached 150 "Likes" & am so thrilled. Also, the festivities will start from August in India. First coming up is "Raksha Bandhan", the festival which celebrates the relationship & bond of a Brother & Sister. So I thought of coming up with an easy to make Indian Sweet Dish, "Peda". A "Peda" is a North Indian Milk Sweet mainly consisting of Khoa (thickened whole milk), sugar & other Indian flavourings like saffron & cardamom seeds. Pedas are usually made during festivities or for offerings made in the temple for deities. This recipe is a simple process of the same "time consuming" Pedas where the Milk is kept on the heat for hours to make khoa & then goes to the next process. This is the first time for me as well & I have taken this recipe from "showmethecurry.com" the cookery website of Hetal & Anuja. And I must say

Hundred Thousand Dollar worth Rava Upma (Indian Semolina Polenta)

Now you must be thinking, who doesn't know to make Rava Upma? What is so special about it? Every 5th person residing in India knows to make it and is a common breakfast item in almost all the Indian household. We Indians take this dish for granted. Well up until a week back, even I thought the same about this dish and looked down on Rava Upma. Not anymore. Last week I read a news about an Indian born, New York Chef Floyd Cardoz who won the top prize of £100,000 in an American show called "Top Chef Masters". No prize for guessing, he made RAVA UPMA!! After reading the article, I immediately decided that the recipe of a basic version of Upma must be on my blog. And here I am sharing the if not a "million dollar", then atleast a "hundred thousand dollar worth Upma Recipe". :) Upma is a popular South Indian Breakfast dish, mainly prepared by Semolina. It has a great resemblance with the Italian Polenta. It can be made with many variations by adding vegeta

Basic Pizza Dough

Now there is probably no other word that can be a synonym for "Italian Cuisine".......PIZZA! Who doesn't know about Pizza & who doesn't like Pizzas! And what a great joy you will experience if you know how to make these perfectly at home. If you asked me a decade back, would you try making a pizza at home, I would have said..."Crazy or what!!...Its a fast food dish, best eaten at Pizza Hut or a Dominoes! It is not & cannot be made at home & it won't be as delicious as you get in one of the fast food joints". But when I saw for the first time how my mom-in-law made some delicious pizzas at home with her own luscious toppings, I was spellbound. I slowly started to have a liking towards home baking. It was when I visited Italy, that I found the true taste & look of the authentic pizzas. My previous notions were all wrong. I got a whole different picture of this beautiful dish called PIZZA! An authentic Italian pizza dough is smooth as b
